On-Snow Ski Skills and Endurance Training
Once the snow starts falling on Grand Mesa, typically in early November, the team will replace some running and some gym sessions with skiing sessions that focus on skill development and muscular endurance. Most cardiovascular endurance training will continue at lower elevations, down in town and in the valley, since at 10,000 feet above sea level, we don’t have the same training capacity as we would at lower altitudes.
Explanation of terms: Muscular endurance refers to the ability of your muscles to work continuously without fatigue, while cardiovascular endurance is the ability of your heart and lungs to deliver oxygen to your working muscles.
