In addition to meeting eligibility criteria, the top three women and top three men on the team will represent CMU at the USCSA National Championships.

To be eligible for the USCSA National Championships, which are held biennially in either Lake Placid, NY, or Mt. Bachelor, Oregon, an athlete must:

  • Compete in at least two classic and two skate races designated by the conference, or provide NRL/FIS points for up to two alternative races if unable to fulfill this requirement. Requests for exceptions due to special circumstances must be submitted in writing to USCSA-RM and CMU's team coach, and will be reviewed by the USCSA-RM Conference coordinator.
  • Achieve the qualifying points threshold (445 for men, 505 for women) in at least one race. Requests for exceptions due to special circumstances must be submitted in writing and will be reviewed by the USCSA-RM Conference coordinator. The final decision regarding a student’s eligibility to participate in the National Championships rests with the team’s coach. Factors considered may include the team’s budget, student safety, student conduct, maintaining club cohesion, and overall participation in the club’s activities. Skiers selected for Nationals may not necessarily be the fastest on the team.

If qualified for the USCSA National Championships and approved by the coach to attend, students must register for the event no later than the deadline specified by the coach. Registration generally opens three weeks before the event on the website at https://www.uscsa.org (click on "National Championships"). The club may cover some of the race registration fees for students.
