Wax Room

The head coach grants access to the team room. It is a privilege, not a right, to be allowed in the team's wax room. Sharing access to the wax room with anyone without prior authorization from the coach is prohibited.

Storing Gear

During the club's active ski months, students are allowed to store their skis and poles in the wax room. However, students must retrieve their personal ski gear from the team room after the ski season or spring semester. Gear may only be brought back at the beginning of the fall semester. Colorado Mesa University and the CMU Cross Country Skiing club are not responsible for any lost or damaged personal gear left in the team room during summer break. Students are responsible for managing their own equipment at all times.

Ski Waxing

  • The coach provides assistance with ski gear maintenance and waxing. It is a privilege, not an entitlement, for students to have the coach wax their skis.
  • Waxing before races is a fun team activity. We gather the night or two nights before the races to prepare our gear. This time also allows us to discuss the upcoming race, event logistics, and more.
  • The club supplies all World Cup level waxing tools, waxes, waxing and tuning tools from Swix and Toko, to include waxing benches, brushes, structure tools, irons, roto brushes and every tool required for ski tuning. The club supplies and uses Swix PS, HS and TS line of glide waxes and V/VP line of grip waxes. Additional products from Toko and Rex are also used for race preparations.

Wax Rules

In order to promote fair competition and reduce costs for athletes and teams, the USCSA-RM Conference teams have jointly established a rule requiring all athletes to use the same glide wax for the Conference-level races. The glide wax call is made by the race organizer typically the Wednesday preceding the race weekend. Individual racers have the discretion to choose their grip wax. For Conference-level races athletes can use PS and HS line of Swix glide waxes and any grip waxes or klister. For the National level races teams and athletes can use World Cup level waxes of any brand.

Only non-fluorinated kick (grip) and glide waxes may be used for training and all races.
