CMU Cross Country Skiing offers partial scholarships to assist athletes in covering part of their tuition costs. These scholarships are awarded by the head coach, who evaluates applicants based on their prior ski racing achievements or current USCSA points/rankings. The best-performing athletes, as determined by their points and rankings, are prioritized for scholarship consideration, with those holding the highest ranking receiving preference based on availability. Additionally, athletes with FIS points can also utilize them to determine their eligibility for scholarships. These scholarships typically range from $1,000 to $3,000 per school year or ski season, providing valuable financial support to deserving athletes pursuing their academic and athletic endeavors at CMU.
The team also covers nearly all of the participation costs, to include all travel, lodging, training, registration fees and much of the gear. Those direct costs amount to about $6,000 per student per season and are paid for by the school:
- Coaching
- Travel to all in-state and out-of-state events
- Team travel for training
- Lodging for all events
- Meals and miscellanous expenses at all events
- Race registration fees
- Training camps
The team also provides:
- A well-equipped wax and team room in prime location on campus
- Complete waxing and tuning, to include all waxes
- Race suits, warm up jackets, ski jackets, ski pants, and various team apparel
Members of the CMU Cross Country Skiing are given access to pro pricing to most of the brands associated with cross country skiing and outdoor sports.
